JENKIN ARMS: A lion rampant reguardant was the charge on the arms of Powell, of Iden, in the extreme east of Sussex, and a similar charge appears on the arms Of the Jenkins family of Kent, a branch of which settled in Sussex in the 17th century. There seem to have been, in fact, two Sussex branches as there were two Kentish branches. in 1633 the Kentish branches, of Stowling, to the north-west of Folkestone, and of Coldred and Eythorn, both inland and midway between Dover and Deal, were united by marriage.

The second son of this marriage was Thomas Jenkin of Stowling and Folkestone, an attorney-at-law, who married Eleanor Hawes of Salehurst in Sussex. One of their sons, a barrister, is described as Thomas Jenkin, of S*LUWIing Court, Co. Kent, and of Warbleton and Burwash in Sussex.

The other Sussex branch of the Jenkin family descend from Henry Jenkin of Eythorn, brother of Thomas, who united the Coidred and Eythorn branch with the Stowling branch. One of Henry Jenkins grandsons was Thomas Jenkins, rector of Bodiam, and another, Charles, was an apothecary of Burwash.

The arms of the Jenkin family are blazoned: Argent, a lion rampant requardant sable.

King Charles Is reign, Thomas Jenkin, Gent. of Eythorne, descended from a famiiy in the north of England, came into Kent & settled at Folkestone about the reign of Henry VIII. There are several memorials in the chancel of this church (of the manor). Bore arms Argent, a lion rampant regardant of able descendants continued to William Jenkin, Gent. of Horfemonceux, who barred th, entail made of this manor, and then devised it by will to his brother Jjhn Jenkin, Gent. and to his nephew William Jenkin, clerk of Frampton in Gloucestershire.
